On Sunday, July 11, 2021, The death of Nigerian veteran singer, Sound Sultan was announced by his family.

According to his family, Sound Sultan died after a hard-fought battle with Angioimmunoblastic T-Cell Lymphoma in the United States.

1. Olanrewaju Fasasi, popularly known as Sound Sultan was born on November 27, 1976.

2. He was not just a singer but also a songwriter, actor, comedian, and recording artiste known as one of the pacesetters of modern hip hop music in Nigeria.

3. Sound Sultan’s first single was “Jagbajantis” in 2000 which rocked well in Nigeria after independently releasing other singles and collaborating in many popular hit songs of other Nigerian singers.

4. He was first signed under the record label of Kennis Music where he released four albums.

5. In 2007, his contract with Kennis Music expired after which he partnered with his fellow veteran singer, Baba Dee to set up Naija Ninjas, an organization for a record label, production outfit, and clothing line.

6. When Sound Sultan was under the record label of Naija Ninjas, he released Back from the Future in 2010 and also signed artistes such as Karma Da Rapper, Young GreyC, Shawn, and Black.

7. The legendary artiste worked with Wyclef Jean on “Proud to be Africa” an album
from Wyclef’s welcome to Haiti: Creole 101 album which also featured popular Nigerian singers such as 2face Idibia and Faze.

Sound Sultan and Wyclef also collaborated on two other projects: “King of My Country” (2009) and “People Bad” (2012).

8. In 2009, Sound Sultan tied the knot with his long-term lover, Chichi Morah who is now called Farida Fasasi from Igbo ethnic group.
