Federal Government has said that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) will start blocking all SIM cards that are not registered with the National Identity Numbers (NIN).
This statement was revealed via the official Twitter page of Bashir Ahmed, the personal assistant on new media to President Buhari.
It reads:
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has given telecommunications operators (MTN, Glo, Airtel, 9Mobile and others) in the country two weeks to block all SIM cards that are not registered with the National Identity Numbers (NIN), the Commission has said in a statement.
As the NCC gave telecommunications operators (MTN, Glo, Airtel, 9Mobile and others) two weeks to block all SIM cards that are not linked with the National Identity Numbers (NIN), if already enrolled, dial *346# to retrieve your NIN, as we await details from NCC/telecoms.
When a user commented “this is rubbish”
Bashir Ahmad replied by saying:
No, it’s not. That will definitely help to curtail and checkmate the lingering security challenges in some part of the country.
What is still difficult to believe is that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) that was mentioned by Federal Government hasn’t come out to support or oppose this latest information.
Federal Government has previously ordered all Network Providers to stop registering new Sims, I guess this may be because of this information.
Meanwhile, concerned Nigerians have reacted angrily to the tweet posted by Bashir Ahmad.
