There has been an outpouring of love and condolences from Nigerians worldwide following the death of Sadiq Daba on the evening of Wednesday, March 3, 2021.
Before we talk about the 5 things you should know about the late Sadiq Daba, let’s quickly do a quick biography of him.
Sadiq Daba Biography
Sadiq Abubakar Daba was a Nigerian actor and broadcaster who rose to stardom in the late 1970s.
He first got featured in Cockcrow at Dawn and thereafter, he also appeared in a movie titled ‘October 1’, the movie that gave him the Africa Academy Award for Best Actor in 2015 for his important role as “Inspector Waziri”.

After a long battle with cancer, Sadiq Daba died on March 3, 2021, at the Ayinka General Hospital in Ikeja, Lagos.
In honour of the talented veteran actor, here are 5 things you should know about him.
1. Daba was a professional broadcaster
Growing up, Daba had always wanted to be a broadcaster.
His dreams became reality when he auditioned for a role at Radio Television, Kaduna (RKTV).
He was employed as a news anchor, reporter and editor at RKTV, NTPC Lagos.
He used to have a show at Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) which is popularly called the AM Express.
He is popular for his roles in ‘October 1’, Cock Crow at Dawn and ‘Citation’.
2. He relocated from Sierra Leone to Nigeria on a boat
Although he comes from Kano but grew up in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
When Sadiq Daba was 15, he returned from Sierra Leone to Nigeria by boat.
He then went ahead to study at NTA TV College and Ahmadu Bello University where he bagged his first degree in Mass Communication.
3. His fight with Cancer
In 2017, Sadiq Daba announced that he is suffering from a diagnosis of Leukemia and prostate cancer and was humbly supported with fundraising by prominent Nigerians including the likes of Joesphine Obiajulu Odumakin, Mabel Oboh and Femi Otedola.
The Veteran actor also revealed that he survived on a drug called Gleevec which costs about N1.7million.
However, Daba got the drug without paying a dime from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, courtesy of a foreign foundation.
On February 3, 2018, Daba joined project pink Blue to walk against cancer in order to commemorate World Cancer Day.
4. His Marital Relationship
Late Sadiq Daba got married to Bolaji Daba, the woman he met in Jos while she was still a student there.
They both have six children and six grandchildren.
5. He was an AMAA award winner
The African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) which was held on Saturday, September 26, 2015, saw the veteran actor being rewarded for his excellent performance in ‘October 1’ as the movie got nominated alongside Tony Kgorogo, Sdumo Matshali, Abdoul Kareem Konate and Gerrad Essomba.
