Popular Nigerian Music legend, Sir Victor Uwaifo has died. He was 80 years old.
Uwaifo who is popularly called ‘Guitar boy’ died from complications suffered after an undisclosed illness.
He was honoured with the National Merit Honours of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON).
The music legend was Nigeria’s first Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism and also the winner of the first gold disc in Africa (Joromi) which happened in 1965.
Uwaifo bagged a B.A. Honors (first-class valedictorian), Master’s degree, and Ph.D. in Architectural Sculpture, University of Benin (UNIBEN).
The Joromi crooner had also lectured at the UNIBEN’s Department of Fine and Applied Art.
